About Us
Country Bookshelf
Montana's Largest Independent Bookstore since 1957
We are a local, independent bookstore located in historic downtown Bozeman. Our goal is to promote the love of reading to all, by carrying the best selection of books anywhere! We host regular author events and workshops throughout the year, as well as our very own Book Club.
The Country Bookshelf was first founded in 1957 by Polly Renne in a small shop just off Tracy Avenue, and after several years, Marguerite Kirk relocated the store to the White Chapel on West Main Street. Mary Jane DiSanti, owner of the book store for 36 years, then purchased the store and later moved it back downtown in 1986 to its current location, renovating and expanding the space which would eventually become a landmark, and the largest independent bookstore in Montana. In 2010 Mary Jane transfered ownership to Ariana Paliobagis, who has continued to make the bookstore one of the most knowledgeable, people-friendly book stores around.

Best Bookstore
Country Bookshelf After 36 years in the business, this Main Street landmark and its new owner, Ariana Paliobagis, demonstrated enough Montana grit to outlast big-box Goliaths. One good reason behind their endurance is the knowledgeable, face-to-face help synonymous with the Bookshelf. Rest assured, if the hardcover you seek is not in stock, one of the wonderful employees will order it faster than you can say “Amazon.”
