Children's Festival of the Book

 

The 14th annual Children's Festival of the Book will be held at the Story Mill Recreation Center due to scheduled renovations at the Bozeman Public Library. A schedule of the events will be posted soon; the entire day is free and open to the public. All three authors/illustrators will be visiting area schools on in the week prior to the festival. Hale, Shannon

Shannon Hale is the New York Times best-selling author of over thirty children's and young adult books, including graphic novel memoirs Real FriendsBest Friends, and Friends Forever, and multiple award winners The Goose GirlBook of a Thousand Days, and Newbery Honor recipient Princess Academy. Shannon and her husband Dean are frequent collaborators. They co-wrote the graphic novels Rapunzel's Revenge, and its sequel, Calamity Jack (both with co-creator Nathan Hale). With LeUyen Pham, they created the Princess in Black series of early chapter books and picture book Itty-Bitty-Kitty-Corn. They live with their four children near Salt Lake City, Utah.

LeUyen Pham is the award-winning and critically acclaimed illustrator of more than one hundred books for children. LeUyen (pronounced Lay-Win) is the New York Times bestselling illustrator of the Freckleface Strawberry series by Julianne Moore, Grace for President by Kelly DiPucchio and Princess in Black by Shannon and Dean Hale. LeUyen is also the illustrator of God’s Dream by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the Alvin Ho series by Lenore Look, the Vampirina Ballerina series by Anne Marie Pace, and The Boy Who Loved Math by Deborah Heiligman. She is the co-creator, along with Shannon Hale, of the bestselling graphic memoirs Real FriendsBest Friends, and Friends ForeverOutside, Inside, a chronicle of life in a Covid-bound world, was released in 2021. The Caldecott Honor Book Bear Came Along by Richard Morris is the Links to Literacy selection book to be given to all first graders this fall, thanks to the Bozeman Schools Foundation.

Born in Vietnam, LeUyen and her family left the country in the final days of the Vietnam War. Growing up in Southern California, LeUyen always loved to doodle and draw, and earned a degree in illustration from the Art Center College of Design. Following school, LeUyen worked as a layout artist for DreamWorks Feature Animation, and illustrated books on the side.

These days, LeUyen lives in Los Angeles with her husband Alex (who is also an artist), and their two sons.

The youngest grandson of Ernest Hemingway, he originally hails from New York City and now lives with his husband in Bozeman, MT.

The Children’s Festival of the Book is a free event devoted to children’s books that allows kids and families to hear award-winning, popular children’s authors and illustrators and includes writing and illustrating contests to foster children's creativity. The Festival is made possible by the Bozeman Public Library Foundation, Humanities Montana, Country Bookshelf, MSU College of Education, Health and Human Development, Magpie Guesthouse, Audrey Haight, Jane and Bill Quinn, and others who value the importance of children’s writers and illustrators. All who love children’s books are invited!
